Immunodeficiency
Immunodeficiency refers to illnesses where the patient's immune system, which is responsible for preventing and handling infections, is weaker than normal. Thus, these patients often have infections which are more severe, frequent or caused by unusual pathogen, unlike the usual viral infections and common colds seen in other children.
Immunodeficiency can be complex, requiring multiple specialties to be involved in the care of the patient.
As a referral centre in Singapore, we provide a comprehensive range of diagnostic tests in immune deficiency including measurement of immunoglobulin levels, vaccine responses, lymphocyte subsets, lympho-proliferative tests, neutrophil function tests and cytokine measurements.
We have also successfully transplanted children with complex primary immune deficiencies such as Chronic Granulomatous Disease, Hyper-IgM syndrome and Leukocyte adhesion deficiency type 1.
