A distinguished clinician, a respected teacher and a visionary leader, the late Emeritus Professor Lenny Tan was highly regarded and internationally recognised as a giant in the field of radiology.

He started his illustrious career at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) fresh out of specialist training at the Postgraduate Medical School at Hammersmith Hospital. E/Prof Tan quickly rose through the ranks to become Head of Department and Director of the School of Radiology. During his term, he pioneered interventional radiology and introduced Computerised Tomography (CT) for clinical use.

In the 1990’s, E/Prof Tan embarked on a more academic and administrative path at the National University Hospital (NUH) where he became the Head of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Chairman, Medical Board and Board Member. On the academic front, E/Prof Tan became the first Professor of Radiology at the National University of Singapore (NUS). E/Prof Tan was also the first radiologist ever elected to serve as the Dean of the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of radiology, E/Prof Tan received numerous Honorary Fellowships and memberships from radiological societies globally. Despite his monumental achievements, E/Prof Tan always displayed humility and sheer dedication to his work.

E/Prof Tan, you will be dearly remembered and missed by all.
