The department offers a comprehensive spectrum of clinical services for a wide variety of surgical conditions, with both inpatient and outpatient services. Beyond surgical procedures, our department pioneers' new technological frontiers through innovative research. For instance, we are actively developing and the use of mixed reality (MR) technology in medicine. Our aim is to redefine medical benchmarks to develop safer and more effective surgical approaches for the benefit of our patients.

The NUH Department of Surgery offers quality patient care by embracing innovations and advances in medical treatment. Our medical professionals provide comprehensive specialised care in general and surgical subspecialties such as Breast Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Endocrine & Thyroid Surgery, Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Neurosurgery, Obesity Surgery, Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, Trauma and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery.
We have built a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, nurses and allied health professionals who work closely together to ensure our patients receive holistic and comprehensive care—from their first appointment to after their discharge.
An example of our care philosophy is the Management and Innovation for Longevity in Elderly Surgical Patients (MILES) programme. Introduced in 2016, we adopted a holistic care approach, particularly during the perioperative period, to improve surgical outcomes for our silver generation, aged 65 years and above.
