Combining your knowledge of your insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio (ICR), carbohydrate counting skills, insulin sensitivity factor (ISF) and pre-meal blood glucose levels empowers you to accurately determine your pre-meal insulin doses.
An example of integrating ICR, carbohydrate counting and ISF:
Before starting the meal: 1. Preform a pre-meal blood glucose test
2. Estimate the carbohydrate content of your planned meal

While this process might seem overwhelming initially, it becomes more manageable with practice.
It is advisable to start on a smaller scale, such as focusing on one meal per day for practice. Consult your healthcare team for advice on utilising tools like smartphone apps to assist with your calculations.
