Biosketch

"The centre of human thought, language, culture and innovation, the brain is endlessly fascinating. More complicated than anything in the known universe, it's the last frontier of exploration and discovery. Within neurosurgery, we've come so far to treat some types of brain tumours and injury with great success but there are still many more challenges that we have yet to make much headway in. This is what drives me in my work – to not just treat, but teach, so that we can continue to discover cures and bring hope."

A/Prof Yeo is a Senior Consultant of the Division of Neurosurgery, National University Hospital, Singapore and the Medical Director of the Singapore Gamma Knife Centre.

He underwent his undergraduate medical training in the National University of Singapore and obtained his MBBS in 1985. After completing his National Service in 1988, he underwent postgraduate neurosurgery training in Melbourne, Australia and obtained his exit neurosurgical qualifications (FRACS) in 1994. He then did further subspecialty training in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery in Toronto, Canada as well as in Seattle, USA and Grenoble, France.

Improving brain surgery through research, innovation and education

A/Prof Yeo has been the recipient of numerous research grants over the years and has published widely in the neurosurgical literature in the domains of stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, head injury and virtual reality neurosurgery.

He has also supported the use of new and innovative technologies, procedures and treatments. This includes holographic technology to 'see' inside the brain for better diagnosis, more accurate surgical planning and better patient outcomes. As well as targeted stem cells treatment for brain cancer.

A/Prof Yeo is a firm believer in growing the capabilities of the next generation. Apart from research, he is passionate about educating the next generation and nurture the next crop of academic clinician scientists and neurosurgeons that he hopes will go on to create, discover and lead the way in tackling malignant brain tumours and other diseases affecting the brain.
