Our Orthoptists specialise in the assessment and non-surgical management of eye movement disorders, binocular vision disorders and abnormal visual function. They work with patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly. They collaborate and co-manage patients who have stable strabismus and/or visual field defects, and children with amblyopia, alongside our neuro-ophthalmologists and paediatric ophthalmologists.
They conduct orthoptic assessments for paediatric and adult patients with eye misalignment (squint/ strabismus), abnormal eye movement and eye coordination. They assess patients' vision (especially in infants, children, and non-verbal patients), contrast sensitivity, colour vision and visual field. They collaborate and co-manage patients with our neuro-ophthalmologists and paediatric ophthalmologists for patient with stable strabismus and/or visual field defects, and children with amblyopia. They offer non-surgical management options using orthoptic treatment, such as eye patches to treat amblyopia, orthoptic exercises to improve misalignment, and prescribe optical aids to help eliminate double vision.
