Dr Elijah Cai is a board-certified Plastic Surgeon with a special interest in craniofacial reconstruction. He treats a diverse range of conditions ranging from trauma and tumours to congenital malformations. These include facial deformities after traffic and industrial accidents, cleft lip and palate, craniosynostosis and hemifacial microsomia. He also specialises in breast reconstruction after cancer surgery, complex wounds, burns and aesthetic surgery.
He has numerous publications in the field of craniofacial surgery, and has authored book chapters on the use of intra-operative navigation to improve outcomes in complex reconstruction of the facial skeleton. He is also a reviewer for the Archives of Plastic Surgery, the official journal for the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He travels widely to learn and share at international conferences, and has won numerous awards for his work.
Dr Elijah is actively involved in the development and use of virtual surgical planning and 3D-printing for patients requiring complex reconstructive surgeries. He was the chairperson for the Residents’ Research Committee as well as mentor to undergraduates at the Division of Industrial Design, National University of Singapore, transforming ideas and innovations into working clinical devices.
Dr Elijah is also passionate about training of medical and dental undergraduates and has organised numerous surgical workshops for surgical trainees. He is also part of the examination committee for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery, National University of Singapore. Passionate about learning from fellow specialists near and abroad, he has been involved in numerous surgical mission trips around South East Asia as part of exchange programmes.
