Dr Lenard Cheng is an Emergency Medicine specialist. He graduated with his medical degree from NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, completed Emergency Medicine residency training in NUHS, and earned his Master of Science in Disaster Medicine from Università del Piemonte Orientale and Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and completed a fellowship in Disaster Medicine with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, USA.

He coordinates disaster response at multiple levels. Locally, he is an assistant commander in MOH Disaster Site Medical Command charged with managing national civil emergencies. He also directs humanitarian disaster relief and plans emergency preparedness for National University Hospital. He was awarded the Public Administration Medal for setting up and directing two national alternative care facilities as part of Singapore's COVID-19 response (F1 CTF, Chia Ping CCF).

Internationally, he is part of the expert working group supporting the ASEAN Regional Capacity on Disaster Health Management. He authored a chapter in its inaugural training module on international collaborative disaster response, describing the standards and guidelines for international medical teams.

Medical technology is a complementary area of interest and expertise for Lenard. He completed a biodesign course under Harvard HealthTech, and has been the invited speaker at numerous international Emergency and Disaster Medicine conferences, on the topic of technology. He also advises overseas and local engineering and computing industry partners on the many stages of medical innovation from refining needs, identifying and connecting stakeholders, to concept generation and prototyping.

Dr Cheng is continually looking out for international collaborations for projects, missions, or research on the subtopics within Disaster Medicine: simulation and technology, humanitarian aid, community preparedness, and counterterrorism.
