Antenatal classes for expectant parents in Singapore

The Community Antenatal Programme, offered by the National University Centre for Women and Children (NUWoC) aims to equip parents with knowledge and practical tips for their parenthood journey.

A/Prof Su Lin Lin
Head & Senior Consultant, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Department of O&G 

With over 25 years of experience in caring for pregnant women and a mother of three, A/Prof Su is no stranger to the anxiety and apprehension faced by pregnant mothers and their families. Through the online videos, she shares her knowledge in antenatal education to empower women in their pregnancy journey. 

Dr Karen Lim 
Consultant, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Department of O&G

An obstetrician and a mother of two young children, Dr Karen draws on her professional and personal experience to deliver informative and relevant content to participants. In the online videos, she shares common symptoms and medical conditions in pregnancy, and how to manage them. 

Ms Dimney Patricia 
Nurse Clinician, Department of O&G
Registered Midwife and Certified Baby Massage Instructor 

A pioneer in antenatal education at NUH, Ms Patricia has over 20 years of experience in preparing expectant couples for their parenthood journey. Through both the online videos and in-person classes, Ms Patricia equips parents with strategies in newborn care and baby massage.  

Ms Jasmine Steve Cai
Nurse Clinician, Department of O&G
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) 

Inspired by the support she received in breastfeeding her firstborn, Ms Jasmine decided to specialise in the field of lactation to support other mothers facing breastfeeding difficulties. With over 18 years of nursing experience and 10 years as a certified lactation consultant, she shares strategies for successful breastfeeding in the in-person classes and online videos. 

Ms Cammy Tsai 
Senior Principal Physiotherapist, Department of Rehabilitation

With over 20 years of experience in women’s health, Ms Cammy Tsai is passionate about helping women achieve their rehabilitation goals and optimising maternal health for women. She shares tips on managing pregnancy-related musculoskeletal conditions and safe exercises during pregnancy and post-birth in both the online videos and in-person classes. 

Dr Pauline Chan 
Consultant, Division of Paediatric Allergy, Immunology & Rheumatology, Department of Paediatrics, Khoo Teck Puat – National University Children’s Medical Institute (KTP-NUCMI)

As a paediatrician specialising in allergy and mother of two young children, Dr Pauline understands the anxiety parents face regarding feeding and allergies. In the online videos, she equips parents with knowledge in these areas, and also shares practical tips in infant sleep patterns, managing common illnesses, and transitioning back to work after having a baby. 

Dr Lin Wanyun
Consultant, Division of General Ambulatory Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Department of Paediatrics, KTP-NUCMI

A paediatrician and mother of two young children, Dr Wanyun is keenly aware of the challenges and joys that modern-day parenting brings. In the online videos, she draws from her professional expertise and personal experiences and shares practical tips on how to prepare older siblings for a new addition to the family. 

Dr Christl Yong
Consultant, Department of Psychological Medicine 

Ms Angel Lam
Case Management Officer, Department of Psychological Medicine 

As part of the NUH Women’s Emotional Health Service (WEHS) team, Dr Christl and Ms Angel are passionate about supporting women’s emotional and psychological needs during both the pregnancy and postnatal periods. In the online videos, they share common issues that affect maternal mental health, and provide tips on how to navigate the emotional and relational changes that come with this new phase of life. 

Ms Tan Jia Xuan
Principal Occupational Therapist, Department of Rehabilitation

With extensive experience working with children facing complex medical, developmental and physical conditions, Ms Tan Jia Xuan is committed to empowering parents through their unique journeys. In the in-person classes, Ms Jia Xuan combines her clinical skills and personal insights as an Occupational Therapist and mother of two to equip parents with knowledge in nurturing baby’s movements, holistic development, and identifying red flags for early intervention.

Ms Chong Hui Ngoh
Senior Physiotherapist, Department of Rehabilitation

A physiotherapist with more than 20 years of experience in paediatric care, Ms Chong Hui Ngoh is a strong advocate for natural developmental approaches. She emphasises that a thoughtful setup of the environment and meaningful interactions in daily activities are factors that truly boost a baby’s development. With her wealth of experience and holistic approach to infant care, Ms Hui Ngoh provides expectant parents with practical and evidence-based guidance to support their child’s growth and development.

She offers innovative parenting tools and techniques, as well as practical wisdom to help them overcome challenges and strengthen family bonds.

Useful information
In-person classes
  • In-person classes are held over 5 Saturdays. You will be able to indicate your preferred course schedule at the point of registration. 
  • Registration for each course run opens 3 months before commencement. 
  • Upon successful registration and payment, you will receive a confirmation email with details on the dates, venue and class timings. 
  • You are encouraged to attend all classes with your partner. Each participant may be accompanied by one partner only. 
  • Details on how to book your baby massage class will be sent to you via email upon successful enrolment in the programme. 
Online classes
  • Upon successful registration and payment, you will receive a confirmation email with details on setting up your Thinkific account.
  • Do use the same email address for class registration and Thinkific account access.
  • Enjoy immediate access to course materials.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
General

1) Who can sign up for these classes?

The classes are open to all expectant mothers and couples. Both NUH and non-NUH patients are welcome to sign up.  

2) Why attend antenatal classes when so much information is widely available online? 

Our antenatal classes provide a structured, evidence-based learning experience led by qualified healthcare professionals. Whether through the in-person or online classes, you will receive guidance rooted in clinical expertise and tailored specifically to families in Singapore. 

3) When should I enroll in the classes?

We recommend starting the classes when you are in your second trimester of pregnancy, but pregnant women in an earlier or later stage of pregnancy are also welcome to sign up. 

In-person classes

1) Where are the classes held?

The classes will be conducted at 463 Clementi Ave 1, S120463 or NUHS Tower Block, 1E Kent Ridge Road, S119228. Please refer to the registration form for details on the venue for each run. More details will also be provided upon successful registration. 

2) Can my spouse/partner/family member attend the class with me? 

Yes, you are encouraged to attend the classes with your spouse/partner/family member. Each participant may be accompanied by one person only.

3) What is the in-person class schedule like? 

The classes are held over 5 Saturdays. You will be able to indicate your preferred course schedule at the point of registration. 

4) What if I’m not able to attend a class that I’m scheduled for? 

No replacement classes will be scheduled, so do ensure that you are available on all dates when you are making your class selection. 

5) How do I arrange for the baby massage class? 

Details on how to book your baby massage class will be sent to you email email upon successful enrolment in the programme.

Online videos

1) How do I access the online videos?

The online videos are hosted on Thinkific. Once registration is complete and payment has been made, you will receive an email with details on how to login and access the videos. You will need a device (computer, tablet or smartphone) with internet access. 

The online videos are a series of pre-recorded lectures which you can watch at your own pace and convenience. 

2) How long will I have access to the online videos? 

You may access the online videos for two years from the date of registration. You can access the online videos as many times as you like during this two-year period. 

3) Can I share my login credentials with others? 

Each subscription is for your personal use only. Sharing login credentials is not permitted and may result in account suspension. 

4) What if I experience technical difficulties with accessing Thinkific for the online videos?

  • National University Hospital (NUH) reserves the right to replace instructors of the in-person classes in the event they are unavailable. In any case, all classes will be conducted by qualified professionals. 
  • In the event of class cancellation by NUH, rescheduling will be prioritised for participants. If rescheduling is not feasible, NUH will review and determine the appropriate resolution on a case-by-case basis. 
  • Terms and conditions for payment: 
    i. Full payment is required upon registration. 
    ii. Accepted payment methods include credit card, debit card and PayNow. 
    iii. There will be no refunds issued for missed classes. 
    iv. All prices are in Singapore dollars and inclusive of GST. 
  • NUH reserves the right to revise class topics to ensure information presented is up to date.
