Our Rehabilitation Support team plays a crucial role in assisting therapists in the recovery and rehabilitation of patients. They assist therapists from a wide range of disciplines, which includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and podiatry, under the Department of Rehabilitation.
These dedicated professionals work in both inpatient and outpatient settings, supporting our therapists in:
- Setting up and supervising patients during therapeutic activities and exercises.
- Preparing treatment areas, gyms, and clinics for patient use.
- Setting up modalities and therapeutic equipment.
- Conducting and/or assisting in group therapy exercises.
- Maintaining the therapy areas.
- Overseeing the duties of healthcare attendants and portering assignments in the rehabilitation area.
- Handling inquiries, scheduling, and administrative records.
As Singapore’s leading university hospital, NUH collaborates closely with tertiary education institutions to provide exposure and pathways to employment as a therapy assistant through the following programmes:
- Institute of Technical Education (ITE): Work-Study Diploma (WSD) in Rehabilitation Care
- Polytechnic Therapy Assistant Internship Programme
Our Rehabilitation Support staff members are also offered extensive opportunities for continuous professional development, enabling them to specialise in specific clinical areas of interest. This commitment to growth ensures ongoing skill enhancement, solidifying their role as integral members of our healthcare team.
A key avenue for their development is the Therapy Associate Training Programme. This structured programme is collaboratively designed and delivered by allied health professionals in the Department of Rehabilitation. It equips staff members with relevant and essential skill sets, empowering them to independently perform higher-level clinical work. Through this comprehensive approach to professional development, we strive to not only enhance the capabilities of our Rehabilitation Support staff but also elevate the quality of patient care.
