Biosketch

Dr Sunitha Vimalesvaran is a paediatrician with advanced subspecialty expertise in Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. She provides comprehensive clinical care for infants, children and adolescents across a broad spectrum of paediatric conditions. Her clinical interests include paediatric gastrointestinal disorders, liver diseases, nutritional disorders, growth and developmental concerns, and the multidisciplinary management of children with complex medical needs.

Dr Vimalesvaran graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from King’s College London, United Kingdom, in 2014  and was awarded the Proxime Accessit to the Univesity of London Gold Medal. She completed postgraduate paediatric training in both Singapore and the United Kingdom and attained Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH), United Kingdom, in 2018. In 2024, she was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Paediatrics with subspecialisation in Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and was subsequently admitted to the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register in the United Kingdom. Her specialist training was undertaken at internationally renowned institutions including King’s College Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in the UK and the National University Hospital Singapore. 

Through these appointments, she gained extensive experience in paediatric hepatology, gastroenterology, nutrition, paediatric intensive care, neonatology, community paediatrics, and general paediatrics. Her principal academic interests are in paediatric liver disease, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), transitional care for adolescents and young adults with chronic liver and gastrointestinal conditions, impact of the gut microbiome and clinical research aimed at improving long term outcomes for children with with chronic liver disease. 

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Vimalesvaran has contributed to medical education through her role as Clinical Practice Tutor and Digital Education Research Fellow at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Singapore, in collaboration with Imperial College London. Her work focused on clinical teaching, educational innovation, and digital learning research, reflecting her commitment to advancing medical education alongside patient care.

Having trained and practised in both Singapore and the United Kingdom, Dr Vimalesvaran has developed a strong regional and international professional network and brings a global perspective to paediatric healthcare delivery. She remains committed to providing evidence-based, patient-centred care while contributing to the continued advancement of paediatric medicine, specialist clinical services, and medical education.
