Biosketch

Dr. Carey Lim Yun Shan is a paediatrician with a strong interest in paediatric endocrinology and medical education. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, in 2018, graduating with distinction in paediatrics, and received the Goh Boon Peng and Seah Sai Kew Medal and Prize for outstanding performance and community contribution. She subsequently commenced her paediatric residency training at the Department of Paediatrics at National University Hospital, where she served as Chief Resident and later Assistant Chief Registrar. She was recognised for her dedication to teaching and mentorship, receiving multiple institutional teaching awards including the NUHS Paediatric Residency Best Registrar Award in 2022, 2023, and 2025, as well as the Best Medical Officer Award in 2021. She received her Master of Medicine (Paediatrics) and Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) in 2021. She achieved Specialist Accreditation for Paediatric Medicine in 2025 and currently practises as an Associate Consultant in the Division of Paediatric Endocrinology and Children’s Emergency at the National University Hospital.

Her academic interests focus on childhood obesity, diabetes, adolescent endocrinology and neonatal endocrine disorders. She has contributed extensively to the literature through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, particularly in the areas of obesity-related comorbidities, polycystic ovarian syndrome, sleep apnoea screening, congenital hypothyroidism and diabetes care. Her work has been presented at international conferences including the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE), Asia Pacific Paediatric Endocrine Society (APPES) and the European Academy of Paediatric Societies. She was awarded the Top Poster Award at the KTP-NUCMI Research Week in 2023 and received recognition at the NUHS Residency Research Awards in 2024.

In addition to research, Dr. Lim is actively involved in quality improvement initiatives. She was part of a multidisciplinary project aimed at improving influenza vaccination uptake among paediatric patients with diabetes mellitus, which received multiple institutional awards for innovation and sustainability. She is also the recipient of a KTP-NUCMI Research Grant supporting a study on continuous glucose monitoring systems in children and adolescents with diabetes mellitus.

Beyond her clinical and academic work, Dr. Lim remains committed to leadership, education, and community service, values that have consistently shaped her professional journey from medical school through residency and beyond.
