Biosketch
Dr Wendy Wong is a consultant ophthalmologist in the Department of Ophthalmology at National University Hospital (NUH) and Alexandra Hospital (AH). She holds a joint appointment as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and co-leads the Precision Medicine pillar at the NUS Medicine Centre for Innovation and Precision Eye Health.
Dr Wong graduated from the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine with exceptional academic distinction, earning consecutive Dean's List awards from 2010 to 2014, along with the prestigious Merchant Medal and Prize in Geriatric Medicine. She subsequently received the Ministry of Health's (MOH) training award for specialist training and holds a Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology. Her outstanding performance at the Specialist Accreditation Examination was recognised with gold medals for achieving the highest scores in Glaucoma, Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Specialising in Medical Retina, Dr Wong focuses on age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema and inherited retinal diseases. Supported by the Health Manpower Development Plan award from MOH, she completed advanced fellowship training in Complex Medical Retina, Visual Electrophysiology and Ocular Genetics at the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in the United Kingdom and Sydney Eye Hospital in Australia. She pioneered the establishment of the nurse-led intravitreal service at NUH, an innovation that earned recognition with the Incredible Care Quality Improvement Award. Her commitment to exceptional patient care was further acknowledged with the Singapore Health Quality Service Award.
As an accomplished clinician-scientist, Dr Wong has published extensively in peer-reviewed scientific journals and received numerous research accolades, including the Young Investigator Award at the 10th Asia Pacific Conference on Human Genetics, the Abbott Research Prize and the NHG Eye Institute Award of Distinction. Her research endeavours are supported by prestigious grants, including the National Medical Research Council Research Training Fellowship, the NUSMed B2B Collaboration Grant Award and the NUHS Clinician Scientist Programme grant.
Dr Wong's leadership extends beyond clinical practice through her service as Vice-Chairperson of the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology's Young Ophthalmologists' Chapter. She is deeply committed to medical education, having contributed to the textbook "Essential Ophthalmology, 2nd Edition", and her teaching excellence has been recognised with both the NUHS Great Teacher Award and NUHS Young Clinician Mentor Award.
