A/Prof Tiong Ho Yee is a leading figure in the field of kidney and pancreas transplantation and urological surgery in Singapore and the region. With over two decades of clinical experience at the National University Hospital (NUH) and National University of Singapore (NUS), he has pioneered numerous surgical innovations and led transformative programs that have elevated NUHS as a regional centre of excellence in organ transplantation and robotic urological surgery.
Clinical Expertise
• Kidney & Pancreas Transplantation: As the Surgical Director of NUH’s Adult Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation Programmes, A/Prof Tiong has performed over 300 kidney transplants and led the development of Singapore’s first pancreas transplant service. He is also the inaugural National Director of the MOH-established National Pancreas Transplant Program, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.
• Robotic & Minimally Invasive Surgery: He founded NUH’s Robotic Kidney Surgery Program in 2014, completing over 300 robotic kidney surgeries to date and enhancing precision and recovery outcomes for kidney cancer patients. His innovations include Singapore’s first robotic buccal mucosal ureteroplasty and the use of AI and 3D imaging to enhance surgical planning and patient education.
• Complex Surgical Procedures: A/Prof Tiong has performed several national and regional surgical firsts, including dual kidney transplantation, combined liver-kidney transplantation, and ABO-incompatible transplants.
Academic & Educational Leadership
• Residency & Fellowship Training: As Program Director of NUHS Urology Residency since 2012, he has mentored several transplant surgeons and urologists. He also leads advanced fellowship programs in kidney surgery and transplantation.
• Regional Education: He serves as Deputy Director of the Asian School of Urology and Secretary General of AUSTEG, organizing workshops and surgical training across Asia.
