Biosketch

Adjunct Associate Professor Chua Horng Ruey earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 2002 and his Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) in 2007, both from the National University of Singapore. A certified Specialist in Renal Medicine since 2011, he holds fellowships with the Academy of Medicine (Singapore), the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh), and the American Society of Nephrology. Committed to broadening his leadership and strategic acumen, he obtained his Executive Master of Business Administration from Nanyang Technological University in 2026. He was awarded the Healthcare Manpower Development Program Award in 2010 for Critical Care Nephrology training in Australia, and the Leadership Training Award in 2025. An accomplished clinician-innovator, he received the Transition Award in 2019 for nephrotoxicity studies and the Clinician Innovator Award from the National Medical Research Council in 2024 for developing a medical device for diabetic foot screening. In 2023, he was appointed a Faculty Fellow of the Singapore Biodesign programme, reflecting his dedication to translating clinical insights into impactful healthcare innovations. His clinical interests span acute kidney injury, nephrotoxicity, urinary biomarkers, continuous renal replacement therapy, cardiorenal metabolic disorders, onconephrology, and clinical therapeutic reasoning. He is deeply committed to driving digital transformation and achieving high-quality, value-based care for kidney health management in Singapore.

Dr Chua is currently a Senior Consultant with the Division of Nephrology at the National University Hospital, where he serves as Head of Nephrology and Dialysis services, and is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
