Care at NUH

NUH International Ophthalmology Scientific Congress 2026

2026/02/05

Celebrating 40 years of excellence, shaping tomorrow's vision

Foreword

Dear Colleagues and Participants,

Forty years ago, the Department of Ophthalmology at the National University Hospital was established as the first dedicated eye department in a Singapore hospital. What began as an ambitious vision to build world-class eye care for the region has since grown into a leading centre of ophthalmological excellence we celebrate today.

Anchored in our commitment to deliver excellent and compassionate care – grounded in academic rigour, innovation and multidisciplinary collaboration – we have built a legacy we are truly proud of.

Our work, encompassing Orbit, Oculofacial, Lacrimal and Oncology care, has enabled us to manage some of the most challenging cases, from complex thyroid eye disease and orbital inflammatory disorders to rare orbital and adnexal tumours that require precision and innovation. These achievements are made possible by the close partnerships with our colleagues across various departments including Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology and Pathology.

Our reach has extended well beyond Singapore’s borders. Through our involvement with the European Group on Graves Orbitopathy (EUGOGO) and our growing leadership in ophthalmic oncology, we firmly believe that excellence in clinical care, research and education is best advanced through strong international and interdisciplinary collaborations. The overwhelming response to our 2024 NUH Orbit Symposium, which brought together over 200 participants from more than 30 countries, reinforced that knowledge transcends borders.

Singapore’s position at the crossroads of Asia puts us in a region with over 4 billion people across South and East Asia, where the demand for advanced eye care continues to surge. By working together, we can help meet this need, and the impact will extend far beyond our individual institutions and patients.

The NUH International Ophthalmology Scientific Congress, taking place from 22 to 25 October 2026, will bring together global experts to share groundbreaking advances across the full spectrum of ophthalmology.

We look forward to seeing you at the Congress. Together, let’s shape the next chapter  because the work we do here will make its way into operating rooms and clinics across Asia and beyond, improving outcomes for millions. Thank you for being part of this journey with us!
