Pain peptides and pain biomarkers, epigenetics of pain, Neural stem cells and neurogenesis, Alzheimer's disease - mechanisms of amyloid precursor protein, Neurotransmitter receptors and ion channels


Dr Tan is an experienced researcher in biomedical science with diverse experiences in molecular neurobiology, pharmacology and plant genetics engineering. He has obtained his MSc. in plant genetics engineering and Ph.D in neurobiology and pharmacology from National University of Singapore.
His main research interest is on pain peptides, pain biomarkers and looking into the epigenetics of pain in cancer treatments. Besides these, he is also interested in other research areas related to neurodegenerative diseases, brain cell therapy and brain imaging. Besides handling both local and international collaborative research projects, Dr Tan had also mentored more than 20 undergraduate, honours and postgraduate students; and research assistants.
