Dr Jonathan Lee is a Senior Consultant from the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Medicine at the National University Hospital. He heads the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Unit at the National University Centre for Digestive Health. In this role, he leads the clinical team in providing advanced care for patients with complex gastrointestinal conditions, specifically Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Reflecting his commitment to excellence in patient care, Dr. Lee was honored with the Star Award at the 2026 Singapore Health Quality Service Awards

He is also an Assistant Professor at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, a Principal Investigator for IHealthTech and SynCTI, and serves as the Director of Research for the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Dr. Lee is at the forefront of integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into clinical practice to improve patient outcomes. He served as the Chairperson of the 2nd International Digestive Endoscopy AI Symposium (IDEAS) and remains a leading voice in the field. His work in AI focuses on (a) Early Cancer Detection: Utilizing AI to enhance the accuracy of gastroscopies and colonoscopies to catch early-stage gastrointestinal cancers, and (b) Quality Assurance: Developing AI-driven standards to ensure every endoscopic procedure is performed with the highest level of diagnostic precision.

Beyond his leadership in IBD and AI, Dr. Lee is a specialist in Microbiome Medicine. He drives the Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) clinical service at NUH, exploring how gut bacteria can be harnessed to treat chronic diseases. His research bridges the gap between the lab and the bedside, aiming to "personalize" medicine by predicting how patients will respond to specific treatments based on their unique biological profiles.

Dr. Lee’s global training includes a prestigious two-year research fellowship at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard (USA) and a specialized fellowship in image-enhanced endoscopy at Kyushu University Hospital (Japan). He holds a PhD and a Master of Clinical Investigation from the National University of Singapore.
