Schizophrenia is a mental health condition that affects one’s perception of reality. It includes one or more of the following symptoms:


  • Changes in perception due to hallucination
  • Changes in thinking due to delusion
  • Blunted or inappropriate affect,
  • A reduced level of social functioning,
  • Cognitive function might be affected in the early stage

Symptoms of schizophrenia includes delusion, hallucination, disorganised thoughts and/ or speech, reduced motivation and/ or taking initiative compared to baseline state. There might be gross reduction in spontaneity, speech and engagement with loss of interest to participate activities or experience less pleasure in activities.




The treatment of the condition includes use of medications.


Blood investigations and brain scan are sometimes perform to exclude medical conditions affecting the brain.


Hospitalisation might be recurred for patients who are at risk of harm to self or others, or for close monitoring and treatment.


Rehabilitation of the condition includes referral to community rehabilitation services.
