Division of Dermatology

The Division of Dermatology manages all dermatology inpatients and referrals. We run daily outpatient clinics and provide specialised investigations and treatments for all aspects of dermatological problems.


Outpatient Services:

General Medical Dermatology

Medical dermatological cases seen here range from common to rare, and cover patients of all age groups.

Surgical Dermatology

We evaluate and manage a full range of skin lumps, bumps and discolorations such as epidermal cysts, lipomas, neurofibromas, warts, skin tags, keloids, moles, seborrhoeic keratoses, skin cancers, epidermal naevi, vitiligo, melasma, naevus of Ota, café au lait macules, tattoos, drug-induced pigmentation, etc.

A variety of skin biopsies, electrosurgery, cryosurgery, intralesional steroid injections, carbon dioxide laser surgery, treatment of hyperhidrosis (sweaty palms, soles, armpits) with botulinum toxin injections, etc, are performed by our clinicians.

We also offer mohs micrographic surgery, which is a service that affords care for the management of various types of skin cancers.


Skin Cancer Screening and Surveillance

The objectives are:

  • Early detection of cancerous change in pre-existing or new moles with the aim of early removal of malignant melanoma, hence reducing cancer morbidity and mortality.
  • Screening and periodic surveillance of pre- and post-organ transplant recipients for pre-cancerous and cancerous skin lesions with the aim to achieve secondary prevention of cancer, and to provide primary preventive strategies by education and sun protection.

All individuals with more than 10 moles, moles on inconspicuous sites, family history of malignant melanoma, giant congenital melanocytic naevus (>20cm), history of primary skin cancer or organ transplants are eligible for this programme.


Aesthetic Dermatology


Our services include:


  • Laser-assisted hair removal
  • Chemical peel
  • Laser-assisted pigment removal
  • Wrinkle reduction using botulinum toxin or filler injections
  • Removal of facial and leg veins using injections
  • Microlaser skin resurfacing (for wrinkles, coarseness, acne scarring)
  • Laser and radiofrequency-assisted skin tightening
  • Removal of moles, "facial oil deposits", skin tags, seborrhoeic warts, etc.
  • Vascular Laser for the treatment of vascular malformations or tumours


Paediatric Dermatology Clinic


This highly specialised clinic is situated in the children’s clinic and caters to common and the most complex dermatological problems in infants and children. Unique strengths of this clinic include the diagnosis and management of congenital genetic blistering diseases, hair and nail diseases and vascular malformations or tumours.


Immunodermatology clinic


Challenging autoimmune blistering and collagen vascular diseases such as bullous pemphigoid, pemphigus vulgaris or foliaceus, cutaneous lupus erythematosus, vasculitis of the skin and dermatomyositis are managed holistically by our specialists, often with multidisciplinary input.


Hair and Nail clinic


A wide variety of hair and nail diseases is managed in this specialised clinic. 



Specialised Nurse-led Services

Our nurses run weekly wart clinics to treat viral warts by using a combination of paring and cryosurgery. The option for electrocautery or carbon dioxide laser can also be discussed. Other specialised nursing services include wound care, wet wrap counselling, contact sensitization for alopecia areata and compression dressing for venous insufficiency and wounds of the limbs.   





Our facilities include broadband ultraviolet A and narrowband ultraviolet B phototherapy units for full body as well as localised treatments. We also offer targeted phototherapy for psoriasis, vitiligo and acne.

Inpatient Services (Dermatology):

Our clinicians attend to inpatient referrals from all disciplines. Patients seen in the University Medicine Clinic with more complex and serious skin disorders may also be admitted for more intensive workup, nursing care and coordinated multidisciplinary management.
