Dr Victor Ong is a Consultant Emergency Physician with the Emergency Medicine Department of the National University Hospital. He graduated from the National University of Singapore with MBBS in 1992 and subsequently obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Accident and Emergency Medicine in 2000. Dr Ong has special interest in Trauma management and the application of critical care practice in Emergency Medicine care. He had recently completed his clinical fellowship under the auspices of the MOH HMDP in Trauma and Critical Care in the Royal London Hospital UK, well known for its Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS), as well as their initiatives and skills in management of the critically ill trauma patients. He has been on medical relief missions to disasters sites including the Earthquake in Yogjakarta in 2006 and has participated first hand in the management of multiply traumatized patients. His current interest is in the continual development of the Trauma registry with the Hospital Trauma service to facilitate research and further improvement to trauma management within NUH through education and active participation in audits. Dr Ong’s other interests include clinical research. He is an active participant in various multi-centre trials in prehospital Emergency care. He has several contributions on trauma and critical care in peer reviewed journals and made presentations at Singapore Society of Emergency Medicine and the NHG Scientific Conferences. He is a reviewer for the Singapore Medical Journal. He is a Clinical Lecturer for undergraduate Medical Studies with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and is also actively involved in teaching postgraduate training and courses, including ATLS, ACLS and Basic Emergency Sonography for Trauma (BEST). He has received numerous accolades for his teaching. He is a lecturer and clinical coordinator for the MRCS/MMED (Emergency Medicine) course and examination respectively. Dr Ong is the Secretary of the National Committee on Trauma and a member of the Committee on Emergency Medicine Basic Specialist Trainee workgroup.
