Biosketch

Dr Lau obtained his medical qualifications in 2002. His worked in various disciplines such as Emergency Medicine, General Practice, General Surgery et cetera to broaden his perspective before specialising in Orthopaedic Surgery. He completed his specialist training in 2011. He undertook a further two-year of sub-specialty training in adult and adolescent spinal conditions at NUH.

In 2014, he was awarded Academic Medicine Development Award (AMDA) to undergo 1 year of clinical paediatric spine fellowship at the Nemours/Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Delaware, USA under the mentorship of paediatric orthopaedic surgeons including Dr Suken Shah, Dr William G Mackenzie and Dr Freeman Miller. He travelled to many hospitals in the USA to fellowship with leading paediatric spine surgeons such as Dr L. Lenke and Dr P. Newton.

Dr Lau has written a few book chapters for major spine textbooks and has presented his research findings in international meetings such as Scoliosis Research Society.
In 2018, he was awarded a SGD$2 million Health Service Development Programme (HSDP) grant as a principal investigator to improve the process of scoliosis screening nationally.

Dr Lau manages all aspects of the spinal conditions with special interest in paediatric spinal conditions (children’s spine).
