Biosketch

Dr Derek Soon is a Senior Consultant with the Division of Neurology, National University Hospital, and an Assistant Professor on Clinician track under the National University of Singapore.

He obtained his MRCP in 2001 from the Royal College of Physicians (London) in 2001 and the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (Neurology) from the Joint Royal College of Physicians Training Board in 2011. Dr Soon is also a member of the Royal College of Physicians, an associate member and trainee representative for East Midlands of the Association of British Neurologist, and an associate member of the Academy of Medical Educators.

Dr Soon has had various publications and presentations on his works, such as "MRI evaluation of the anti-adhesion molecule antibody Natalizumab and the blood-brain barrier in Multiple Sclerosis" and "Isolated Jaw Tremor: A Clinical Approach".

Dr Soon is also involved in research projects such as the AFFIRM trial substudy. His research interests lie in multiple sclerosis (MS) and the blood brain barrier (BBB) as a potential therapeutic target. Future works that he hopes to be involved in would attempt to elucidate the mechanisms of cerebral immunosurveillance and how such mechanisms are affected by natalizumab.
