Our Research

Occupational Therapy
Our occupational therapists have presented papers in SAOT Annual Conference, NHG Annual Scientific Meeting, American Hand Therapy Annual Meeting etc. We have also published papers in international journals such as the British Journal of Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapy International. 

We are currently interested in research in the following areas:

  • Outcome of patients with distal radius fractures
  • Hand function assessment for patient with hand injuries
  • Outcome of patients with pain after undergone Occupational Therapy Intervention
  • Occupational needs of patients attending neurological outpatient services at NUH
  • Functional Outcomes for Persons with Stroke Following Early Supported Discharge Programme
  • Activity participation patterns of stroke patients
  • Team-based management of lymphoedema management with occupational therapy customised compressive pressure garment for persons with lower limb lymphoedema and upper limb lymphoedema

Our Physiotherapists have presented papers in Singapore Physiotherapy Annual Congresses, NHG Annual Scientific Meetings, etc. We have also published papers in international journals such as Respirology.

We are currently interested in research in the following areas:

  • Outcomes of neck and back pain
  • Use of pulmonary risk stratification for cardiopulmonary physiotherapy
  • Wii-rehabilitation
  • Falls risk evaluation
  • Early supported discharge for stroke patients

In recent years, podiatry has been represented at numerous local and regional conferences. This includes:

  • Asia Pacific Diabetic Foot Conference
  • Malaysian Orthopaedic Conference
  • Singapore-Malaysian medical congress

Podiatry has also assisted in research with the department of orthopaedics and vascular surgery.

Current areas of research interests:

  • Diabetic Foot Complications
  • Diabetic foot care education
  • Wound management
  • Lower limb biomechanics

Speech Therapy

In recent years, our Speech Therapists have presented conferences such as the Speech Pathology Australia National Conference, the Combined Scientific Meeting Singapore and the NHG Annual Scientific Congress, Singapore.

We are currently interested in and hope to develop our strengths in research in the following areas:

  • Language Norms in Singapore
  • Assessment of Developmental and Acquired Language Disorders in Singapore
  • Management and Rehabilitation of Swallowing Disorders
  • Speech Therapy Service Delivery in Singapore
