NUH Children's Fund

The NUH Children's Fund is a sub-fund of NUHS Fund (one of the charities under NUHS) to provide financial assistance to needy patients of the Khoo Teck Puat – National University Children’s Medical Institute (KTP-NUCMI) at the NUH. Find out more about NUHS Fund here.

The KTP-NUCMI is a tertiary institution equipped to provide comprehensive and specialised medical and surgical services for newborns, children and adolescents. The conditions treated here range from cough and cold to more complex conditions such as kidney and liver disease.

Medical treatment can be costly. Every year, there are patients who encounter financial difficulties in spite of government healthcare subsidies such as Medisave, MediShield or Medifund schemes and/or private insurance. The number of such patients who require financial aid continue to rise yearly.

We believe that no one should forgo treatment because of financial difficulties. As such, the NUH Children's Fund (formerly known as NUHkids Fund or CAP Fund) was started in 1990.

To enable all children and adolescents to achieve good health and well-being regardless of their financial circumstances.

To help children and adolescents who require financial assistance for their medical treatment.

What does the fund help with?

The NUH Children's fund enables young patients in need of financial aid to continue with treatment and alleviate the stress faced by their parents and families. View our donor report here to find out more.

As an important source of funding for our beneficiaries over the years, the NUH Children's Fund has funded items such as:

The purchase of medical equipment (e.g. renal dialysis equipment, oxygen concentrators, home ventilator machines, feeding pumps).
The purchase of consumables (e.g. catheters, feeding tubes, test strips).
The cost of tests or investigations (e.g. X-Rays, blood tests).
The cost of treatment such as medication, rehabilitation, and outpatient subsidised consultation fees.

These are some of the patients who have benefitted from the NUH Children's Fund:

Matthew* is a 7-year-old patient with intellectual disability, epilepsy and deteriorating lung function. The youngest among three siblings of a low income family, he cannot move independently and requires nasogastric tube feeding. Because of the support of donors, Matthew was able to purchase a home ventilation machine to support his breathing and lung function and now receives adequate care at home
Sarah* is 8 years old. A few years ago, she was diagnosed with a chronic bladder problem (neurogenic bladder) and is on regular follow-up and treatment. Sarah’s condition requires Clean Intermittent Catheterisation (CIC) procedures several times a day so as to prevent kidney infections and to preserve her kidney function. Her father is the sole breadwinner of the family as her mother has quit her job to care for Sarah. Facing struggles to get by on her father’s low income, the family of 4 had to move to a smaller flat due to the mortgage loans. Because of the support from donors, Sarah is able to afford consumables required for her CIC.
Colin* is an 18-year-old patient with epilepsy, intellectual disability and malnutrition. His parents are in their fifties and suffer from chronic medical conditions that require follow-ups with specialists. As the sole breadwinner, Colin’s father experienced retrenchment in 2012 and now works as a kitchen helper, drawing about $800 per month to support the family. Due to Colin’s high care needs, his mother is unable to work. Because of the support of donors, Colin’s family is able to purchase milk feeds costing $140 per month which are essential for his malnourished state.

Disbursement of financial aid is done by a committee comprising doctors, nurses and medical social workers.

How can I donate to the Fund?

You may donate via the following ways:

Donation via Cheques
1. Please make the cheque payable to 'NUHS Fund', and indicate "NUH Children's Fund" on the back of the cheque.
2. Mail the cheque with the completed “Donation Form” which can be found at this link to us.
3. A Tax-Deductible Receipt (TDR) or Non Tax-Deductible Receipt (Non-TDR) will be emailed/mailed to you.
Online Donation via Giving.sg
1. Visit this link to make an online donation
2. Donations can be made via credit or debit card (MasterCard, Visa) and direct debit (internet banking).
3. Individual donors do not need to separately claim tax deductions for donations in the income tax forms if NRIC No. or FIN No. are filled out at the point of donation. Your donation details will be provided directly to the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS), and the donation deductions will be included automatically in your tax assessment.
Monthly Giving via Giro
1. Please fill out the “Giro Form” which can be found at this link.
2. Mail the Giro Form with the completed “Donation Form” which can be found at this link to us.
3. A consolidation of all the TDRs for the year will be mailed to you at the end of December.
Standing Instructions
This allows you to set up a regular donation to NUH Children's Fund (e.g. weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly etc).
1. Setting up Standing Instructions through internet banking:
  There may be a charge levied by the bank.
  1. Please refer to the “Steps for Standing Instructions” which can be found at this link.
  2. ii. Please also fill out the “Donation Form” which can be found at this link.
  3. Email a scanned copy of the Donation form to paecccw@nus.edu.sg
  4. A consolidation statement reflecting all the TDRs for the year will be emailed/mailed to you at the end of December.
2. Setting up Standing Instructions by post:
  There is a service charge of $10 levied by the bank. All subsequent donations will not be charged.
  1. Please fill out the “Standing Instruction Form” which can be found at this link.
  2. Mail the “Standing Instruction Form” with the completed “Donation Form” which can be found at this link to us.
  3. A consolidation statement reflecting all the TDRs for the year will be emailed/ mailed to you at the end of December.

Donations of $10 and above are eligible for IRAS tax deduction of 2.5 times the donated amount. Should the tax deduction for your gift be more than the income for the year, the deduction will be carried forward over five years.

Monetary donations of S$10,000 and above will be acknowledged on our Donor Board at NUH, upon consent given by donor.
