HEH Lunchtime Talk: Diabetes Management: The Latest "New Kids on the Block"
Ng Porlin Pharmacist Department of Pharmacy
Synopsis
The war against diabetes is a long battle that requires sustained effort. One key prong in the Singapore government’s multiyear plan is to support better disease control - slow disease progress and reduce complications.
Some of the current medications to control type 2 diabetes may have adverse effects such as hypoglycemia (blood sugar decreases to below normal levels). This risk is lower in the new class of drug - sodium–glucose cotransporter (SGLT) 2 inhibitors - given their insulin-independent mechanism.
Learn about the benefits of the SGLT2 inhibitors, as well as its drawbacks at the session.
