What do you like about your job?
I enjoy caring for children. It is a dream come true for me to be a nurse taking care of paediatric patients. I am grateful to have the support of my family to pursue a career in nursing. This gives me strength and keeps me motivated. My mother told me that it is noble to be able to help the ill and aid in their recovery.
There is no typical day at work. Every day is unique as I see different children with various needs. I can have tough days and work can be very challenging, but it is definitely rewarding.
Working in a paediatrics setting offers me opportunities to work with wide range of age from newborn to teenagers. In a paediatrics ward, we do not just care for the child, but for the parents as well. When a child is ill, the entire family is concerned and remains anxious. The emotional stress of a mother requires patience from us. I have come to realise that each child is unique in his or her own way. My work has taught me to be compassionate working alongside the parents of my patients.
Watching a child gets better is a wonderful experience. It gives me a sense of achievement and satisfaction at the end of a long day.
What keeps you happy at work?
I have met awesome colleagues. Sometimes, when it is impossible to take a proper meal break, my colleagues get food for me and insist that I take a break with them. We share happy and difficult times together and I am truly thankful.
If you can be a superhero, who would you be and what would be your special power?
