Opening of Children's Emergency. Our team of specially-trained doctors are on standby 24/7 to care for our young patients suffering from minor trauma and other urgent medical conditions.

Opening of new Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CT ICU). Besides advanced medical equipment, an experienced group of medical professionals are also available to provide specialised care to patients with cardiac, thoracic and vascular conditions.


Opening of Paediatric Inpatient Cancer Centre (PICC). Children can receive personalised and comprehensive cancer care with the advanced equipment and facilities available.

Opening of Nasal and Rhinology Clinic. This clinic provides specialised care and treatment to patients with chronic sinusitis, nasal polyposis as well as smell and taste disorders.


Official opening of Cardiac Centre. At this one-stop cardiology service centre, patients can receive dedicated and specialised care as well as diagnostic and therapeutic services.


Opening of The Clinic for Human Reproduction. The Clinic offers advice and treatment to couples who have concerns on fertility issues. The private environment also allows couples to exchange information with our fertility specialists.

1st in Singapore to use Accommodative Intraocular Lens in cataract surgery. Associate Professor Paul Chew and Dr Lennard Thean from the Eye Institute, National Healthcare Group, have implanted the lens successfully in more than 100 procedures.

August / September

Opening of Wellness Centre. This centre offers health-screening packages that are specially designed to detect common chronic illnesses such as stroke, heart diseases, hypertension and cancers.

Opening of Jurong Clinic for Women. Understanding the busy schedules of working women today, we bring our services closer to them. This clinic provides a diverse range of O&G services and is equipped with facilities for ultrasound scan.


Launch of Angel Heart Service - a taxi chaperone service whereby trained taxi drivers will pick up patients from their homes and send them to NUH for their medical appointments. This is a collaboration between Comfort Transportation and NUH.

Opening of Skills Training And Research (STAR) Laboratory. With an aim to provide a conducive environment for intensive medical research, we established the STAR lab. In this lab, our doctors can perform experimental surgery, research on cadavers as well as testing of surgical equipment. These research and training sessions will further enhance the skills of our medical professionals to deliver better and safer patient care.

Opening of Travel Screening and Vaccination Clinic. Patients can have their travel health concerns answered. Besides treatment for travel-related illnesses, advice on prevention of travel-related ailments and precautions against disease-carrying organisms are also available at the clinic. This clinic also offers a range of immunisations such as vaccines for hepatitis A and B, typhoid fever and chicken pox.


Launch of Auditory Verbal Therapy. Our therapist helps hearing-impaired children to use their aided residual hearing or cochlear implants to acquire speech and language skills through therapy sessions which involve the parents and caregivers.

The e-initiative "Pervasive Computing and Wireless Delivery of Clinical Cardiology Information" won the Enterprise Challenge Award - Enterprise Award in at the PS21 ExCEL Convention in November 2002.


We are the first hospital to achieve triple ISO certifications - ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems) and ISO 18001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems).

Launch of Children's Asthma & Allergy Network ("I CAN !") Programme. "I CAN !" is a comprehensive and integrated programme that aims to provide holistic care to children with asthma and/or allergy conditions. Through different channels and support, we work towards helping our young patients and their caregivers understand and manage the asthma and/or allergies properly and achieve an unrestricted lifestyle.
