A Walk-A-Jog for our liver patients in March marked the official launch of the NUH Endowment Fund - Zachary Liver Fund. The aim was to raise funds for and increase awareness of liver disease in children, and even babies. Through overwhelming support from over 600 liver patients, their families, friends and NUH staff, we raised a total of $68,000.

Opening of the new Blood Donation Centre in March. Conveniently re-located as a systematic flow for easy progression from reception to registration, examination, phlebotomy and to the post-donation resting area for refreshments, thus eliminating backtracking and crowding.
Launch of NUH's main Clinical Information System - Computerised Patient Support System (CPSS) in September.

The Rehabilitation Centre was renovated and re-opened in September to better cater to patient needs. The new Centre boasts an additional 25 percent of floor space and offers integrated rehabilitation programmes and new facilities such as a group therapy room, a fully-equipped Independent Living Room, podiatry consultation rooms and a foot orthosis workshop. The Acupuncture Clinic is also co-located at the new Centre.

Joint partnership between Johns Hopkins and NUH to form the Johns Hopkins - NUH International Medical Centre. The Centre was officially opened by Dr Tony Tan, Deputy Prime Minister, on 6 October 2000.

Launch of the Cancer Genetics Counselling Service in September.

Launch of the 1st NUH Quality Day in October. The event was a reaffirmation of our commitment to quality improvements and an opportunity to reward and recognize staff for their outstanding and valuable contributions.

NUH acquired the multi-detector computed tomography (CT) Scanner to help reduce CT scan time and produces diagnostic images of excellent quality.
