A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 20 January with Johns Hopkins University, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Economic Development Board, National University of Singapore, NUH and National Science & Technology Board to set up a joint venture healthcare company, Johns Hopkins Singapore.

NUH Quality Circle (QC) - Quest Teams, was launched on 6 March. The first in-house QC Convention was held on 30 April.

An outpatient Acupuncture Service was started on 18 May, staffed by an anaesthetist and an acupuncturist from Beijing. The clinic has attracted more than 420 new patients accounting for 3,500 patient visits.

NUH hosted the SAF Day Combined Rededication Ceremony for Ayer Rajah / Bukit Merah Zone on 1 July. And for doing our part for national defence, NUH was honoured with the Commendation Award at the SAF Presentation Ceremony on 22 July.

NUH Tissue Bank celebrated its 10th Anniversary in October with two milestones. The first was the convocation ceremony for graduates of the NUS Diploma in Tissue Banking, the second, the Interregional Trainers Workshop on Distant Learning - Use of the Curriculum Package on Tissue Banking, which ran from 19 to 23 October.

The Liver Transplant Programme scored another first on December 15 when one of its patients became the world's first living liver donor with Von Willebrand's disease (a disease of the clotting system)
