January The Stress Clinic
was started by the Department of Psychological Medicine to help
patients cope with stress through preventive and rehabilitative
measures - the first such programme introduced in Singapore hospitals.

NUH is the first hospital in Asia-Pacific region to integrate the
inpatient, outpatient and emergency modules of the Patient Care System
(PCS).
The world's first successful birth of twins using Co-culture.
June
Introduction of Coma Arousal Programme for coma patients suffering from
head injuries was the first such defined programme available at local
hospitals. The first Head Injured Support Group was introduced the
following year.
August
The MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging system) Centre was officially
declared opened by then Minister for Education, Dr Tony Tan.
