The NUS Department of Social Medicine & Public Health moves into NUH.
Phase II (1/12/83-30/11/85) Handing over ceremony-Preparation began
immediately to receive the Faculty of Dentistry, Dept of Social
Medicine and Public Health, Dept of Psychological Medicine and 8 new
wards with 280 beds.
The NUH Faculty of Dentistry moves into NUH. Dental Service for outpatients begins.
Outpatient service of the Department of Psychological Medicine begins.
The Department of Paediatrics begins its inpatient service with the opening of wards 45 and 48.
The Emergency Department is activated on a 24-hour basis.
The Department of Ophthalmology starts treating outpatients. Inpatient surgery starts three months later.
Official Inauguration of the NUH by Mr Goh Chok Tong, then First Deputy
Prime Minister and Minister for Defence.
The Inpatient service of the Department of Psychological Medicine starts.
The first cardiac catheterisation is carried out at the newly-opened Invasive Cardiovascular Laboratory.
The latest generation Lithotripter is installed; and the first
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy is successfully performed.
NUH successfully performs its first open-heart surgery.
NUH is the first hospital in Asia to have successfully used frozen embryos.
