Heartburn: an uncomfortable burning sensation behind the breastbone which usually occurs after a meal. It is regurgitation of gastric contents into the mouth.
Occasionally, some patients will have chronic cough, asthma, and hoarseness of voice.
In severe cases, GERD may cause narrowing of oesophagus (gullet) and it may even lead to cancer.
