Definition
The lungs of people in some occupations may be damaged after many years of exposure to various dusts. Examples are sandblasting which causes silicosis (due to inhalation of silica), and cement piping and ship building which cause asbestosis (due to inhalation of asbestos fibres). Chest x-rays show typical patterns of damage.
