The Division of Cardiology specializes in the management of newborns, infants, children and young adults with a wide variety of heart conditions. These include congenital heart defects (eg. hole-in-heart, vessel stenosis or regurgitation) and acquired heart disease (eg. coronary problem in Kawasaki disease, rhythm disorders etc).

Our service includes outpatient, inpatient and intensive care (paediatric, neonatal and cardiothoracic) work. In addition, we manage the peri-operative aspects of children who undergo heart surgery (including open heart surgery requiring cardiopulmonary bypass).

We work closely with cardiothoracic surgery as well as our intensive care team to deliver the best possible care to our young children with heart disease.

We have close ties with the newborn paediatric doctors (neonatologists) and adult congenital heart cardiologists to provide seamless infant to adult care for all persons with heart disease in our hospital.

Our diagnostic capability is aided by a full range of investigations, including echocardiography (transthoracic and transesophageal), ECG (12-lead and continuous ambulatory Holter ECG monitoring), exercise treadmill test, myocardial nuclear perfusion scans, tilt-table testing and so on.

We also have access to state-of-the-art imaging facilities such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) and 64-slice high Resolution Computed Tomography(HRCT) scans which are currently available at NUH. In addition, we have a fully equipped bi-plane catheterisation laboratory for both interventional and diagnostic work.

The interventional work includes involves non-surgical transcatheter closure of septal defects, patent ductus arteriosus, arteriovenous communications and balloon dilatation of narrowed valves and vessels.

We look forward to looking after all children and young adults with heart disease. Please book an appointment for our paediatric cardiologist to help you with on patient matters.
