Retail Pharmacy 1 on the day of collection.
Quality Assurance Programme
As
part of our Department's ongoing efforts in ensuring quality patient
care, we also implemented a Quality Assurance Programme in our
laboratory. This involves the adopting of the Good Manufacturing
Practice recommendations in quality assurance and documentation of work
processes. Besides this, we are going "paperless" with our outpatient
prescriptions to reduce the hassle and the waiting time of patients for
medications.
At the same time, we are looking into how to make
the medication use process safer for patients - through counselling,
patient medication profiling, medication reconciliation, educational
leaflets on medicines, alternative medicines and health supplements. We
endeavour to employ IT to achieve these goals where relevant.
Inpatient Pharmacy Automated System (iPAS)
In
early 2009, the traditional way of preparing medication for inpatients
became a thing of the past at NUH. Leveraging automation, an
intelligent system, iPAS, will now ensure that the right medication is
given to the right patient. This seeks to eliminate human errors and
bring patient safety to a higher level. Besides enhancing patient
safety, the solution also improves operational efficiency. Staff can
now better focus on patient-centric activities.
NUH is the
first hospital in the Asia Pacific region to implement an end-to-end or
close-loop inpatient medication management system. It was implemented
in the first ward on 4 February 2009 and has since been introduced in
other wards.

Self-Care Corner
At
our Retail Pharmacy 2, we have created a Self-Care Corner for patients
to learn more about the self-care of minor ailments, how to
self-medicate safely and when to see a doctor. Information made
available at this corner is updated regularly to help patients increase
their understanding of common ailments and gain confidence in their
recognition of and ability to treat these conditions. Patients can also
ask our pharmacists for advice before self-medicating. Our pharmacists
are available to help you manage your health and address concerns you
may have about your medicines or health supplements.
Patient Education
To help you know more
about the medicines and health supplements you will be taking, the
Department of Pharmacy is pleased to provide a set of Patient
Information leaflets (PILs) and Health Supplements leaflets for your
easy reference. These leaflets will provide information on the use of
common medicines and health supplements, as well as their possible side
effects.
