"I would like to express my appreciation for the assistance provided by your hospital, especially by your staff, Ms Terina Tan Pei Yin. My mum, Mdm Hung S. E was diagnosed with lymphoma in late March this year. Not only we were shocked by this piece of news news, we were totally unprepared for the high cost to be incurred in the treatment of this illness. To make matters worse, my mum is a non-Singaporean and unable to enjoy the medical subsidies for the Singaporeans. As a non-Singaporean, the cost of treatment is much higher and financially, there is no way to raise this large amount of money overnight for the treatments. We have to resort to borrowing money from our relatives and have to bear the burden of carrying huge debts.

Despite the fact that my mum is a non-Singaporean, Ms Yan went all out of her way to help us get funding from the Singapore Cancer Society. We know that it is not easy to get the funding as we do not qualify for a number of the criteria set. Still, Ms Yan was able to help us get funding from the Singapore Cancer Society. With the subsidy to be provided by the Singapore Cancer Society, we are able to tide over this period financially so that my mum can focus on getting her treatment. The subsidy also eases our financial burden.

Once again, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to your hospital and most of all, your staff, Ms Terina Tan for all the help rendered."

I am writing to you with regards to your Medical Social Worker, Ms Dianna Lam. Ms Lam has been attending to my mother-in-law, Mdm Samania's case who is undergoing kidney dialysis. I have been updated on a daily basis on my mother-in-law progress, from her health issues to the NKF processing. I have been advised by our family members in Singapore on how much Ms Lam has gone beyond her way to assist our family. She has been very devoted and dedicated to the cause of the patients and families that she had been in charge of as well as towards my mother-in-law and my family there. She has been very professional and her willingness to help and assist others that needed it. I sincerely feel that she has gone beyond all expectation in performing her duties as a Medical Social Worker.

To hear things like this, here in the United States, makes me feel that she should be highly recommended and awarded for a job well done. The next trip we make back to Singapore, I would like to meet her and show her how much it meant to us for showing so much care and concern for our mother there. Congratulations and thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts to Ms Dianna Lam. Thank you NUH for having a wonderful employee under your wings.

“I wish to congratulate NUH for having a very professional emergency medicine team... I accompanied a friend to the A&E expecting the usual A&E experience which is stressful and frustrating for patients, relatives and staff. My experience, paradoxical it may sound, was the most pleasant yet. It would not have been without the presence of two staff that deserve special mention - Senior Staff Nurse Jeffrey Yoo and Assistant Nurse Katherleen Soh. SSN Jeffrey stationed at the Triage counter was a fast worker who kept himself updated of the progress of patients. He went beyond his duties to update me of the patient's progress as often as once every 20 minutes. His encouraging smiles reassured many worried relatives and friends. He often asks patients if there's anything he could do to help them feel better. AN Katherleen was extremely attentive and encouraging to both patient and family. Her smiles certainly helped reassure everyone. Her steadfastness, patience and politeness, even in times of stress, are rare, even in many emergency healthcare workers I have encountered so far... I congratulate NUH for making the emergency department an excellent one and hope that NUH would continue to do so "

“On behalf of my late father and family, we would like to express our thanks to all of you in Ward 58 who had tirelessly taken great care, support and attention to my late father. This is the best ward that he had stayed for the tenderness and kindness that you have all showered on him during his last days. It has lighten his pan and made his passing a smooth transition. We are thankful for your continuous effort in making every day of his last movement as painless and endurable....

My most heartfelt thanks to Dr Wong Lea Choung (Consultant, Dept of Radiation Oncology), Dr Benjamin Mow (Consultant, Dept Haematology-Oncology), Senior Staff Nurse Tan Poh Hoon, Assistant Nurse Maria Lora Red Ella, Staff Nurse Wong Yi Yan and also those whom I may not know your name but you have all made it possible. I salute you all for your passion in delivering your tasks without a word of complaint. I observed a strong teamwork among the staff of Ward 58 and the attention given to all patients while I was staying to nurse my dad as well. Once again, thank you… You have helped lighten the pain, sorrow, pressure and add love to our lives.”

“My husband, Paul, was diagnosed with Liver Cirrhosis… I was informed that he was very sick and to be prepared for the worst. However, he managed to fight for his life… I am convinced that part of that courage came from the knowledge that he was in good and loving hands wherever we turned for help at NUH. I want to let you know how grateful we are to the staff and team of doctors, at each level of care, who have given of the time to Paul and me.

What was truly extraordinary was how everyone in the hospital made themselves available to us whenever we needed help, often within minutes of my calling from my mobile…I know I could always count on the team of doctors attending to him mainly Dr Dede Selamat Sutedja (Senior Consultant), Dr Lee Yin Mei (Consultant), Dr Andrea Rajnakova (Associate Consultant), Dr Low How Cheng, Dr Mark Fernandes, Dr Teoh Kum Faut, Dr Lim Lee Guan, Dr Ruben Wong (Registrars), Dept of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Dr Ruth Hu Huichi (Medical Officer), Dept of Haematology - Oncology and last but not least Dr Desmond Wai (Consultant), Dept of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, who is the one doctor that no words can described....

..your team of doctors would assure me that they will take care of the situation and most importantly, they would offer words of comfort that would help me get through... I am leaving out many other incidents which are equally poignant for us and equally illustrative of the care and compassion that pervades University Digestive Centre and Ward 64’s staff and nurses. Special thanks goes to Nurse Managers Ho Sze Khuen, Lee Hwee Siang, Tho Poh Chi and Nurse Clinician Tan Ching Nee… I sincerely wish to thank each and every one for their help and assistance that has been rendered to me over this period. Thank you all.”

“I would like to express my deep gratitude to A/Prof Lim Seng Gee, Chief, Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, who is to thank for curing me of Hepatitis C. At first I had doubts and fears of the side effects that I might encounter during the therapy. However Prof’s clear explanations, endless encouragement and tireless support convinced me to confidently undergo therapy.

Despite his extremely busy schedule and other activities in Singapore and abroad, he still gives each of his patients’ tremendous attention. This attention has made his patients more at ease in facing difficulties and expediting the healing process. He always provided prompt and appropriate solutions to all problems that arose during the therapy sessions although I was overseas in Indonesia. He is a doctor who has high dedication to the medical profession and I am very proud of him.

Now, I am totally cured from Hepatitis C. I can’t explain with words how glad and happy I am. I am truly thankful to him, to Dr Dede Selamat, Senior Consultant, Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Staff Nurse Malar and all nurses and staff of the University Digestive Center and NUH, who gave me professional care and assistance, and made my every visit, a pleasant one. God bless Prof Lim and his colleagues. He has changed my worries into hope.”

“My wife, Mdm Liow A K, was admitted to Ward 57... During her stay, we were showered with care, concern and advices from the nurses of the ward. Never have I imagined that nurses can be this caring and sweet, especially with my experience with other hospitals. The nurses demonstrated great sincerity and patience with every patient, accompanying and chatting with them, on top of their basic nursing duties. My family and I would like to express our gratitude especially to Staff Nurses Wang Liyun, Lee Yong Chui, Myint Myint Than, Zhang Jian Ping and Assistant Nurses Maramot Onith Ramos and Ma Khin Yu Lwan. They have illustrated the best behaviour and showed us the nobleness of undertaking the job as a nurse."
