Parent Training Programme for Child Language Development (PTP)

Speech Therapy

Our Services

Speech Therapy services in NUH cater for two main groups: adult acquired disorders and paediatric developmental disorders.

The majority of our workload comprises acquired swallowing disorders with patients coming from the main disciplines of Neurology, Geriatrics, Neurosurgery and Oncology.

Our outpatient services include:

Adult Services

  • Swallowing Clinic: Management and Treatment of Dysphagia, using state-of-the-art videofluoroscopy and fibreoptic endoscopy instrumentation for assessment and biofeedback to aid decision-making and treatment-planning.
  • Language and Communication Clinic: Management and Treatment of Aphasia resulting from stroke and Communication Disorders in Dementia, focusing on minimizing communication handicap and facilitating interaction in the patient’s natural home and community environment.
  • Speech Clinic: Treatment of Articulation Disorders such as lisps and enunciation problems. Treatment of Dysarthria arising from Stroke and surgery, and Voice Disorders in Parkinson’s Disease, aiming to increase self-monitoring skills and utilization of inherent abilities.
  • Fluency Clinic: Treatment for Stuttering, with emphasis on building self-confidence in day-to-day human interactions.

Children Services

  • Early Language Development Clinic: Assessment and Treatment of Language Delay (a.k.a. “Late talking”), enhancing parents’ child interaction skills while working with the child on one-to-one basis.
  • Child Speech Clinic: Assessment and Treatment for Articulation and Phonological Disorders such as lisps and tongue-tie – Interventions taking place in the context of fun and games, making therapy thoroughly enjoyable.
  • Child Language Clinic: Language assessment for academic placement purposes.
  • Fluency Clinic: Engaging parents as partners in therapy for Childhood Stuttering.
