Inpatient Pharmacy Automated System (iPAS)

NUH is the first hospital in the Asia Pacific region to implement an end-to-end or close-loop inpatient medication management system. Leveraging on automation, iPAS was develop to ensure that the right medication is given to the right patient, eliminating human errors and ensuring patient safety, and improving operational efficiency. Others

Our pharmacy laboratory is set up to prepare parenteral nutrition, sterile injections, and non-sterile extemporaneous preparations. The nutrition team also provides nutritional support and monitoring for patients on enteral and parenteral nutrition. The oncology laboratory at the National Cancer Institute of Singapore (NCIS) also prepares anti-cancer medications.

Quality Assurance Programme

As part of our Department's ongoing efforts in ensuring quality patient care, we also implemented a Quality Assurance Programme in our laboratory. This involves the adopting of the Good Manufacturing Practice recommendations in quality assurance and documentation of work processes.

At the same time, we are looking into how to make the medication use process safer for patients - through counselling, patient medication profiling, medication reconciliation, educational leaflets on medicines, alternative medicines and health supplements. We endeavour to employ IT to achieve these goals where relevant.
