Women's Emotional Health Service - Pregnancy
Nausea, tiredness, swollen feet, bodily changes... These are just some typical symptoms of a normal pregnancy.
Sometimes, you may experience stress significant enough to affect your quality of life. How do you know whether this is normal or abnormal, or if it will go away soon?
Here at NUH, we believe that every individual is unique, and we also have a group of experienced specialists who have seen women from all walks of life who have encountered psychological health problems during pregnancy.
Perinatal depression and anxiety is more common than you think. Up to 20% of women experience it in one form or another. If you are not sure whether you are part of this large minority, ask yourself:
- Has my quality of life been affected by my emotional symptoms?
- Have other people around me noticed that I'm not my usual self?
If the answer to either or both of these questions is yes, you may be suffering from perinatal depression. If you're taking your vitamins and avoiding substances that might affect your baby adversely, you're doing a good job looking after yourself physically, why not look after yourself emotionally as well?
Please feel free to contact us if you have any queries.
