Overview

University Surgical Centre’s Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery division is dedicated to the providing a full range of customised aesthetics and safe medical treatments to our patients. We are also committed to developing cutting edge research to provide new options for reconstruction.

With its inaugural setup in 1989, the division started with a strong interest in general reconstruction, breast reconstruction and paediatric plastic surgery including cleft lip and palate repair. Since 1982, there has been a dedicated facial trauma team that manages at least 200 cases of facial fractures per year. A microsurgery team was first established in 1996, and has since expanded its services from breast reconstruction including the highly skilled DIEP flap to include microsurgical reconstruction of the paralysed face, and complex defects of the trunk, head and neck and extremities. To provide more comprehensive services, our aesthetic surgery centre was opened in 2005, allowing patients to improve their appearance via surgery and non-invasive methods.

There are 7 faculty members who manage at least 1000 plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery patients per year. We provide a confidential personal service with an outpatient consultation to assess the needs of the patient and individualised treatment.

Our research interests aim to translate bench top research to clinical applications and to develop new surgical techniques to improve the outcome of reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.
