Basic Specialist Training (BST) in Internal Medicine and
Seamless Programme in Respiratory Medicine

Medical officers (including those undergoing BST in Internal Medicine and those who joined Respiratory Medicine early in their careers as part of the Seamless Programme) and house officers are put on one-month rotations through our respiratory wards. Medical officers will also be put on two-month rotations in our Medical Intensive Care Unit and Medical High Dependency Unit. During these rotations, the doctors will manage various common acute respiratory disorders such as pneumonia, exacerbations of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchiectasis, pneumothorax, pleural effusion, diffuse parenchymal lung diseases and lung cancer etc, as well as common critical illnesses such as severe sepsis and septic shock, acute respiratory distress syndrome and multiorgan failure etc. They will also perform common procedures like arterial blood gas punctures, pleural taps, chest tube insertions, endotracheal intubations, central venous catheter and intra-arterial line insertions. Medical officers will also see patients in our respiratory outpatient clinics.
