Orthopaedic Surgery Trauma Surgery and Pelvic Reconstruction |
Dr Fareed Kagda practices general orthopaedic surgery with a special interest in modern holistic orthopaedic injury (trauma/fracture) management, in particular, that of the elderly (geriatric and osteoporotic) and patients with multiple injuries (polytrauma). His area of interests include complex trauma - pelvic acetabular injuries, fractures around joints (periarticular fractures), around existing implants (periprosthetic fractures). He also has an interest in the correction of limb deformities, limb length inequalities (by limb lengthening) and the treatment of bone defects. He has been specifically trained in minimally-invasive and computer-assisted techniques of fracture care.
After
completing medical school at the National University of Singapore in
1995, Dr Fareed trained in several hospitals in Singapore, including
the Singapore General Hospital and the National University Hospital. He
completed his orthopaedic training and joined the Department of
Orthopaedic Surgery at NUH in 2002. Dr Fareed is a Fellowship-trained Consultant in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery. In 2004, he attended an AO(Association for the Study of Internal Fixation)-sponsored fellowship in pelvic and acetabular trauma and reconstruction with Professor P. Giannoudis at St James University Hospital, Leeds, UK. This was followed in 2005 with a fellowship in periarticular, periprosthetic, osteoporotic and geriatric as well as minimally invasive osteosynthesis with Dr R. Babst at the Kantonsspital Luzern, Switzerland. Most recently, Dr Fareed is completing a fellowship at the Hannover Medical School, Germany with Professor C. Krettek, specializing in computer-aided surgery (CAOS), pelvic and acetabular reconstruction, management of posttraumatic deformities and leg length inequality, as well as joint reconstruction and polytrauma management.
Dr Fareed is a member and former webmaster of the Singapore Orthopaedic Association, a member of the Singapore Medical Association, and is involved in the organization and teaching of local and regional orthopaedic trauma courses. He is also involved in the national specialist training committee which oversees postgraduate training of orthopaedic surgeons in Singapore.
Dr Fareed is actively involved in clinical research on orthopaedic trauma related subjects and has also been involved in writing a book chapter on minimally invasive osteosynthesis.
Dr Fareed takes direct referrals from other physicians and also sees patients in the specialist outpatient clinic by appointment. Urgent or emergency cases will be assessed in the Emergency Department initially and then transferred to his care as necessary or by request.
