The Division of Orthopaedic Trauma was established as a separate Division in the Department to address the specific needs of patients with complex bone fractures and soft tissue injury. The Division currently has three Consultants. All our Consultants are fellowship-trained Trauma Surgeons Surgeons, who have a close relationship with AO/ASIF, which is a Swiss Organisation recognised internationally by orthopaedic surgeons as world leaders in the theory, research, practice and teaching of orthopaedic trauma surgery.

trauma team Our Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeons have a wealth of experience in managing all manner of orthopaedic bone and soft tissue injuries.  In particular, they are experts in the management of complex periarticular fractures of the lower and upper limb, including pelvic and acetabular fractures.  They are also local pioneers of the used of minimally invasive and computer navigation-aided techniques in the treatment of fractures.  In collaboration with the Department of Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery, NUH, our trauma surgeons are experts in the managment of open fractures, and also fractures that have healed poorly (malunion) or failed to heal (nonunion).  Some of these cases may require advanced techniques such as bone transport with Ilizarov External Fixators, bone and soft tissue flaps to cover skin and bone defects, and even live free flaps of bone and soft tissue, such as the latissimus dorsi flap and the live fibular graft.
