Dr J K Lim has been a
member of the
Department of Orthopaedic Surgery,National
University
Hospital since 2003. His special
interests
are in arthroscopic, minimally invasive and reconstructive surgery for
disorders of the
shoulder and knee, including ligament reconstruction, arthroscopic
rotator cuff repair and shoulder stabilization. He
has a particular interest in computer-aided
navigation surgery for joint replacement and ligement reconstruction.
He also specialises in general sports injuries,
as well as sporting injuries to the elbow, hip and ankle joints.Dr Lim received his medical degree from the Trinity College, University of Dublin, Ireland in 1994, where he was a Trinity College Foundation Scholar. Upon his return to Singapore, he served his National Service as Battalion Medical Officer of the 3rd Battalion, Singapore Infantry Regiment. He is currently a Combat Surgeon in one of the Singapore Armed Forces reservist medical units. His general surgical and orthopaedic training was conducted at the National University Hospital, Singapore. He completed a one-year fellowship in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at Methodist Sports Medicine Center, Indianapolis, USA in 2005. His fellowship is accredited by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He obtained a Masters in Sports Medicine from the University of New South Wales, Australia in 2007, and is one of only a few orthopaedic surgeons in Singapore with a postgraduate degree in the field of Sports Medicine.

Dr Lim is currently a Consultant Sports and Orthopaedic Surgeon at the National University Hospital. He is a Clinical Tutor for the Faculty of Medicine of the National University of Singapore. He is the Executive Webmaster for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Website. He was a committee member of the Singapore Orthopaedic Association. He is a member of the Singapore Medical Association, and the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is the Team Physician for Anglo-Chinese School (Independant), Singapore and can frequently be seen taking care of student athletes at local secondary school rugby matches.
Dr Lim was a medical volunteer in Singaporean humanitarian efforts to assist victims of the South Asia Earthquake in Pakistan in 2005. Dr Lim was the Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon of one of the Medical teams that was despatched by the Singapore Red Cross and Mercy Relief Singapore to Muzzaffarabad, Pakistan, one of the main cities affected by the earthquake.
Dr Lim has been scuba diving for over 10 years, and tries to go as often as he can to different parts of the world to dive. He is also addicted to all types of board sports, such as windsurfing, wakeboarding, surfing and snowboarding. He is a keen golfer, and plays to a handicap of 22.
Dr Lim’s research has focused on sports injuries, knee and shoulder problems. He also has an interest in the use of Stem Cells to enhance the surgical treatment of sports injuries. His research has been presented at the annual meetings of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the Asian Congress of Shoulder Surgeons and the Singapore Orthopaedic Association. He has served as the surgical training faculty for ISAKOS mandated surgical workshops in Singapore, as well as the Indian Arthroscopy Society.
