Vision

Regional Centre of Excellence in the field of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery in clinical care.

Mission
Our department seeks to provide comprehensive clinical care to every patient with needs in the field of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery.

History
The Department of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery was started in 1987. The first Chief, Prof Yeoh Kian Hian, led the Department from its birth and built up a team of capable Otolaryngologists. Over a period of 10 years, the Department trained residents who eventually joined as surgeons, proving specialist care in all areas of Otolaryngology. Prof Yeoh passed the mantle onto A/Prof Luke Tan who led the Department from 2002. A/Prof Tan built on the winning formula of Prof Yeoh and expanded the team. He was able to attract the best of the graduating cohort to join the Faculty in the Department. Dr Loh took over the reins from A/P Luke Tan in November 2007. The mission of the Department is to provide clinical care of an international standard, engage in research that benefits Singaporeans and provide effective education to under-graduate and post-graduate students in the field of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery.

Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery encompasses the art and science of problems in the head and neck region. It is a complex region with the largest concentration of complex and vital structures squeezed into a small area. Surgery in this region requires intricate knowledge of the anatomy as well as the functions of the various vital organs. The Department deals with problems in the ears, nose, oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, thyroid glands, salivary glands and the neck. Within this website you will be able to see the range of conditions that we manage.
