Thank you NUH, for taking care of husband

01-Jun-2009 (Mon) Forum, The Straits Times

MY HUSBAND is 75. On April 23, he was admitted to National University Hospital (NUH) by Dr Wilson Wang as he suffered acute pain in his left leg and was on the verge of a stroke due to high blood pressure.

A thorough investigation was carried out immediately. First, a CT scan and brain MRI were done to ensure he did not have a stroke. This was followed by MRI and bone scan of his entire body, 14 blood tests and a nerve test.

All the tests were completed in four days. The spine specialist, Dr Naresh Kumar, visited my husband and told him he had a slipped disc that had broken up in his lower back. Surgery to remove it was necessary. It is rare for a patient to have this condition at 75.

Despite his hectic schedule, Dr Kumar explained my husband's condition and the surgical procedure in detail and clearly to us until late that night. He assured us that the risk was very low. His sincerity put our whole family at ease.

The operation was completed on April 30 and my husband was discharged on May 5.

My husband is recuperating well. He can do routine work now, only three weeks after the surgery.

We would like to thank Dr Wang and Dr Kumar for their professional skill and conscientiousness and for going beyond the call of duty to perform this major surgery successfully.

We would also like to thank Dr Desmond Ong and all others doctors, physiotherapists and everyone else who attended to my husband during his period of hospitalisation in Ward 78.
