With A Stoma And Diet Tips |
| |
| Clothing |
| |
| Wear comfortably. You can wear the
same clothes that you wore before the operation. Avoid putting on
tight belt and waistbands directly over the stoma. |
| |
| |
| Work |
| |
| When your health is restored, you can resume work.
It is unlikely that the ostomy surgery will require you to change
occupations. However, refrain from lifting heavy loads and doing strenuous
physical work because they may cause a hernia (bulging near the stoma). |
| |
| |
| Sport |
| |
| You can continue your regular exercises
to maintain your fitness and health. However, sports that may injure
your stoma or cause stress to the abdominal muscle should be avoided.
Examples are playing football, weightlifting and canoeing. |
| |
| |
| Travel |
| |
| It is important to hand-carry your stoma appliances
in case your suitcase goes astray. Please also bring sufficient stoma
supplies while travelling. |
| |
| |
| Sexual Relationships |
| |
| You can resume usual sexual activity after your
health is restored. However, it is advisable to discuss with your
spouse regarding the physical changes that you have undergone after
surgery. If you have any concerns or difficulties, you may discuss
it with your stomal therapy nurses or surgeon. |
