Hip Precautions
 
In the beginning, some movements will put too much stress on your new hip. Some precautions may be needed to help protect your new hip.
 
Always keep your knee below or at the same level of your hip
Always keep your hip at least 90°C to your back
Do not bend your body forward excessively.
 
 
Sitting
 
Sit with both feet on the floor and your knees about 10cm apart.

Do not cross your legs.

 
 
Standing
 
Do not stand with your operated leg facing inward or outward
 
 
 
Turning
 

Turn with both of your feet and body.

Do not turn on your operated leg.

 
 
Bending
 

Do not bend all the way down to pick up things from the floor.

 
 
Your occupational therapist will also advise you on the use of various
aids/ appliances for safe functioning at home. Common items include:
 
Grab bar.
Raised toilet seat.
Long handled reacher / sponge.
Shower chair / commode.
