What Are The "DO"s And "DON'T"s?

"DO"s

Eat a smaller amount of food at each meal.
Eat more frequently throughout the day. Apart from the usual breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks or small meals can be taken in-between to increase the total daily intake of food.
Eat foods which are high in protein and calorie.
Supplements, e.g. milk or soy drinks, are encouraged to boost the intake.
If the patient is on a special diet for a medical condition, as in Diabetes, Heart Disease or Kidney Failure, this must be continued.

"DON'T"s

Avoid foods that are high in sugar and fat contents.
Avoid eating a large amount, or continuing to eat when you feel full. Over-eating will stretch the stomach. This will cause abdominal discomfort or pain.
Avoid eating solid foods with a lot of fluids at mealtimes. Drinks should be taken at least an hour before or after the main meal to avoid rapid emptying of the stomach.
